It’s not about you

When you think of putting yourself out there in some way - posting on social media, going to meet other healthcare professionals, introducing yourself at your local gym - what thoughts or fears are running through your mind?

For myself and the clinicians I coach, it tends to be things like:

  • Ew

  • Ick

  • Gross

  • They're going to reject me

  • They're going to think "who do you think you are??"

  • Someone will ask me something I can't answer and I'll look like an idiot

  • I'm not the kind of person who can put myself out there

  • I'm shy

  • I'm an introvert

  • I'm just not one of those confident people who easily talks to anyone

  • I can't handle people judging me

  • Yuck

  • Nope

  • Bleugh

... I think you get the gist :)

But you know who you AREN'T thinking about when these are your main thoughts?

The very people you're wanting to help.

(or the animals, babies or whichever creatures you happen to serve 🦄)

The whole point of seeing patients is to help them.

And in order to see patients (in order to help them)... they kind of need to know we exist.

So when you're "marketing" or "selling" yourself, in reality that's all you're doing: letting the people you help know that you exist.

The world needs more of YOU, dear clinician. So go out there and see what happens when you make it all about them.
